Classic recipes, like classic styles are timeless. There are not too many recipes more classic in the fall than a Classic American Pie. For most of us, our apple pie recipes are learned from our mothers and grandmothers. They're handed down (just like our clothes!).
In many parts of America with the fall comes apple picking. It's a fun American pastime that almost always results in getting home with way more apples than you know what to do with. Having an apple pie recipe handy... and perhaps one for apple crisp, apple sauce, apple dumplings, etc is key.
Then, after apple picking season ends, November is near and it's time to think about Thanksgiving. A Classic American Pie will be on many tables around the country.
Here's our recipe:
Classic American Apple Pie
Ingredients:
- 2 ten inch pie crusts (buy or make)
- 10 cups of pie apples
- 1/3 cut of all purpose flour
- 2/3 cup sugar, plus a tablespoon
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- pinch of salt
Directions:
Heat the over to 425 degrees. Peel and slice the apples and set aside. Mix all other ingredient except the butter in a bowl and then dump over the apples and stir.
Place one pie crust into a pie plate. Pour the apple mixture into the pie plate. Dot with the diced butter. Place the second pie crust on top and press around the edges to seal it. Cover the edges of the pie with foil so it doesn't burn. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil from the crust and bake an additional 10-15 minutes.
Serve with ice cream or homemade whipped cream. Enjoy!
